Game overview

What is Pathogenic?

Pathogenic is a 2D roguelike twin-stick shooter developed by Aberrant Labs and published by Slug Disco. You play as a lone parasite inside a procedurally generated human body, fighting immune cells while changing the shape and behavior of your organism. The full game launched on July 16, 2026 for Windows, macOS and Linux.

A run is built around collecting Organelles and grafting them onto your Pathogen. Weapons, movement parts, power sources and support pieces can be connected so one effect changes or triggers another. The useful question is not simply which reward looks strongest, but what role the current organism is missing and whether the new piece actually connects to the rest of the build.

Progress also continues between runs through permanent Plasmid upgrades. The official 1.0 release record confirms seven playable Pathogens, six main body regions and more than 120 Organelles and Mutations combined; Steam lists 41 achievements. This wiki lists only records that can be described from traceable evidence.

How a Pathogenic run develops

  1. 1

    Build your cell

Collect attack, movement, power and support Organelles. Placement and connections determine what the organism can do during the current run.

  2. 2

    Read the chain

Connection arrows and expanded tooltips show which pieces interact. Use those signals before assuming that nearby Organelles create a synergy.

  3. 3

    Upgrade between runs

Spend Plasmid fragments on permanent progression for the Pathogen you are using. Each roster member has a separate upgrade tree.

Reach the hidden Brain, make safer first-run decisions, check the complete roster, set up co-op or confirm what transferred from the demo.

Pathogenic Brain Guide: How to Reach the Brain and Unlock the Secret Ending

Learn how to reach the Brain in Pathogenic step by step: enter the fixed code, collect four hidden shapes, solve the Heart puzzle and unlock the secret ending.

To reach the Brain in Pathogenic, clear the Heart once and record the fixed code: Right, Up, Down, Up, Right, Left. On the next run, unlock and power the Skin tracker, collect four regional shapes, then use their run-specific arrow mapping after the Heart to open the Brain route and unlock the secret ending.

Pathogenic Brain Boss Guide: Attacks, Build Prep & Secret Ending

How to beat the Pathogenic Brain boss, Naegleria Fowleri: what the fight demands, the organelle roles that matter, a build that clears it, and the builds that fail.

The Pathogenic Brain is a boss rush of returning bosses, ending in the final boss Naegleria Fowleri. The fight demands sustained single-target damage, survival against its dash, ring, lightning, and distortion-field traps, and damage that keeps going when your actives cool down. One build has cleared it on video: Fungal Spore with minions (Nidublast, Apex Nidus), a Pristine Mitochondrion for Overcharge, an invulnerability active, and freeze. Killing it unlocks the true ending. This page covers what to bring, one build that clears it, and the builds that fail.

Pathogenic Overcharge Guide: How Mitochondria Stack and Damage Math Works

Learn how Overcharge works in Pathogenic, whether multiple Mitochondria stack, how Overcharge Strength changes effects and how to test real damage.

Overcharge in Pathogenic is power generated by Mitochondria and passed through valid chain connections to compatible Organelles. Developer replies confirm that Overcharge stacks, and that extra Overcharge or Overcharge Strength can make an effect charge faster. A second Mitochondrion does not guarantee a simple 2x final-damage result: read the receiving effect, verify the connection arrows and compare Last Room Damage in the expanded tooltip.

Pathogenic Burn Build Guide: How Burn Works, What to Stack, and Why Combos Fail

How Burn works in Pathogenic: the Organelles that apply it, how burn scales with rarity, what to keep or reroll, and why two builds deal different damage.

Burn in Pathogenic is a damage-over-time status. Two Organelles apply it directly: Pyroflagellum leaves a burning trail when you dodge, and Oxidator applies burn-on-hit — doubled at Epic+ rarity. Players also reach large burn totals with high-frequency projectile builds and melee builds, and a fire option called Pyrogenesis can spread burn when a burning enemy dies. Burn grows fastest when it is applied often and the build is correctly chained to Overcharge, so a burn build is a chain, not a pile. The “5000 burn” figure is one player’s result, not a target the game sets; the “Reach X Burn” unlocks are real and depend on the right parts showing up.

Pathogenic Beginner Guide: Controls, Builds, and Your First Run

Pathogenic beginner guide: core controls, reading the organelle editor and chain arrows, the five organelle roles, a stable first build, organs, the shop, and seeds.

Pathogenic is a 2D roguelike where you build a pathogen from Organelles and fight through six organs. For your first run: learn the four core controls (move with WASD, aim and shoot with the mouse, dodge with Space, open the editor with Tab and the map with M); read the editor before confirming a part, so the chain arrows actually reach your weapons; build one stable main attack first, then add Mitochondria for power and something for movement or defense; and spend Plasmid fragments between runs on the shortfall that killed you. The deeper guides linked at the bottom cover Overcharge, the full Organelle list, the pathogen roster, and the secret Brain route.

All 7 Pathogens in Pathogenic: Traits, Unlocks & Who to Pick

Meet all seven Pathogens, compare their playstyles and trade-offs, and choose the right fit for solo runs, custom shapes or two-player co-op.

Pathogenic has seven playable Pathogens. Bacterium is a simple place to learn the basics; Helminth is commonly built around melee reach; Amoeba and Nanobot focus on shape building; Fungal Spore uses fixed special slots; Diatom is the two-player option; and lil collector changes movement with wall-clinging. Your best choice depends on the controls and build style you enjoy.

Pathogenic Co-op Guide: Local Multiplayer, Diatom & Remote Play

Pathogenic co-op explained: local two-player via the Diatom is supported, there is no native online mode, and a remote friend joins through Steam Remote Play Together.

Pathogenic supports local two-player co-op but has no native online multiplayer. The Diatom is the two-player Pathogen — each player controls one half. A remote friend can still join your local session through Steam Remote Play Together, which streams the host’s game to them. This page covers the three options, the invite flow, how to split controller/keyboard/mouse between two players, and the most common setup failures.

Does Pathogenic Demo Progress Carry Over?

What officially transferred from the Pathogenic demo to the full game, and what the developer did not promise to migrate.

The developer announced that accumulated Plasmids from the demo would transfer to the full game at launch. The announcement did not promise a complete save, unlock or run-state migration.

How many playable Pathogens are confirmed?
Seven: Bacterium, Helminth, Nanobot, Fungal Spore, Amoeba, Diatom and lil collector. Official records confirm the roster but do not reveal every unlock condition.
How many main body regions are there?
The six main regions are Skin, Intestine, Stomach, Liver, Lung and Heart. Brain is confirmed secret content, but it is not counted as one of the six main progression regions.
Does Pathogenic have online co-op?
There is no native online multiplayer mode. Pathogenic supports local co-op, and Steam Remote Play Together can stream that local session to a remote second player.
Did Pathogenic demo progress carry over?
The developer announced that accumulated Plasmids would transfer from the demo to the full game at launch. It did not promise that every unlock, active run or setting would migrate.
Why are there no universal best builds or tier lists?
Build strength depends on connections, the role each Organelle fills and the current balance patch. Use connection arrows, expanded tooltips and previous-room damage to compare choices during a run.
